Happy April!
โ
As always the month went by so fast. It was quite an eventful month for my family.
A couple of weeks ago we had an historic hail storm. Being in southern Oklahoma we are no strangers to hail, so when I say historic you know it's bad.
That hail may look big but that is a rather melted piece. We had softballs and bigger! It was the biggest hail our area has ever seen in recorded history. The biggest piece that was confirmed was 5.25 inches!
One thing you may not know about me is I love meteorology. On storm days you'll find me with multiple radars up on my computer and watching storm spotters.
We knew this day was going to be a severe storm day and we had a tornado watch. I'm the family meteorology so earlier in the day I had shared in our family group chat that there was a tornado watch and things looked iffy.
We had just one severe storm left after the rest had gone around us and we were feeling like we made it out of the woods as the last storm wasn't tornado warned.
I went outside to watch it roll in and saw a lowering that I was watching because it was tightening up (what happens before tornadoes form). My husband came outside to see what I was doing and as I was showing him the lowering and sharing far more technical weather info than he wanted to know we head hail rolling in.
It was very small and I even looked at the radar and didn't see a large hail core so we thought it would be like what we usually get and just some pea to nickel sized hail. We even said to each other we should get our roof looked at after the storm season. And then "boom!" golf ball sized hail and then tennis balls! We decided it was getting dangerous and came in as baseballs and softballs started!
It's the loudest storm I've ever heard. Just "boom" "boom" over and over again on our roof.
We leave west of the rest of my family so quickly called my parents to tell them to make sure cars were up and take cover!
After the storm passed we went outside to look at the damage and get hail photos. Our whole neighborhood was outside doing the same. Everyone was checking on each other but thankfully there were no injuries just a lot of trashed cars and roofs.
We are still dealing with trying to get our roof fixed, along with the whole town. Ironically as I share this with you I'm also chatting with my family in our family text about the severe weather headed our way today. It's actually a much higher risk day today but at least our roof is already needing to be fully repaired (that's an expense we hadn't expected to have this year. ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ)
If you are also in the severe weather risk today (maybe double check in case you aren't sure) stay safe!
This was a long update but I said it was an eventful March. We shall see if you will be getting more weather damage updates next month. ๐คฃ
You should be sure to be following me on Instagram because I will share if we have storms or anything interesting over there.
I'd love to hear how your March went, hit reply, and let's chat.
